SOUTH Wilts Cricket Club maintained their hopes of a third successive title win when beating Bashley (Rydal) on Saturday by five wickets. The win keeps them ahead of rivals Havant at the ECB Southern Electric Premier League summit. Chasing the New Forest side's 167, the Salisbury outfit closed 173-5 to wrap up 24 points. Havant gained 19 points with an eight-wicket success against Burridge.

SALISBURY Racecourse stages another of its highly popular evening meetings on Saturday (July 26). Seven races are on the agenda at the Netherhampton venue, beginning at 5.45pm with the CPA Scaffolding 'Carnarvon' Handicap. The Going is currently Good to Firm and the weather forecast is for a sunny evening (21-26C). After the final race (8.50pm), the entertainment continues with music provided by DJs from the Chapel. REIGNING champions and current ECB Southern Electric Premier League leaders South Wilts head to the New Forest on Saturday to take on Bashley (Rydal). The Salisbury side's lead at the summit was cut following last weekend's disappointing home defeat to Hampshire Academy - title rivals Havant gaining ground with a draw at Totton & Eling. Saturday's match is scheduled to start at 11.30am.

AMESBURY Town drew 2-2 away at Otterbourne in Thursday evening's pre-season friendly. Jesse Walters and Chris Ward were on target for Town against the Hampshire League side. It was the third game running that the Blues had registered a friendly draw - their encounter at Holt United last Saturday ended goalless, while their contest earlier in the month with Wessex Premier newcomers Andover Town finished 1-1. Next up is a trip to Cadnam United on Saturday (July 26, 3pm) ahead of Thursday's visit to Stockbridge (July 31, 6.45pm).
