SALISBURY City have signed former Plymouth Argyle apprentice Ryan Brett. The 19-year-old defender (above) has become the Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division club’s fourth signing of the summer after Chris Giles, Ryan Pryce and Daniel Sheehan. A regular in two FA Youth Cup campaigns for Argyle, Brett can play left back or centre back. He was offered a six-month full-time deal at Home Park at the start of last season, but released on January 1. He has impressed Salisbury’s caretaker bosses Darrell Clarke and Mikey Harris in pre-season training and in the club’s friendlies. Clarke said: “Ryan’s a good lad. He’s worked really hard since he came to us and deserves his chance. He’s a versatile player too so he’ll be pushing for a place at full back or at centre back. “Hopefully we’ll wrap up a few more players in the next day or so.” City's new season kicks off on Saturday, August 14 at home to Stourbridge. Before then they have pre-season friendlies at Downton on Thursday evening, followed by the visits of Andover to the Ray Mac on Saturday and Basingstoke a week later. Photo: Courtesy of Denis Murphy
