THE club’s first team may have had to settle for a winning draw at Havant, but South Wilts’ three other sides all enjoyed handsome seven-wicket victories.

County Division One leaders South Wilts II steamrollered local rivals Shrewton to continue their unbeaten title challenge.

Shrewton had no answer to the South Wilts bowling effort as they were bowled out for just 116.

They battled hard with Sam Gillott, 32, top scoring as the visitors used up 46.1 overs. But Rob Shaw, 2-13, and skipper Tom Pearce, 4-24, patiently worked their way through the batting line-up.

South Wilts reached their target in the 26th over as Rob Pittman struck in 11 boundaries in a fine 56. With Ben Upton, 23, also batting well, they progressed comfortably to a seven-wicket win.

With five weeks of the season left, South Wilts probably need just two more wins to seal promotion back to the Southern Premier League.

Also enjoying a seven-wicket success were the club’s thirds, who eased to victory against Fareham & Crofton.

After restricting their hosts to 190-8, half-centuries from Darren Sargent, 63, and Kit Patrick, 51, took the visitors to a comfortable 193-3.

Completing the hat-trick of seven-wicket victories were the club’s fourth string, who moved back into contention for promotion from  Regional Division Two (North).

Wilson, 61, top scored in a decent Damerham batting effort. They reached 189-7 - South Wilts skipper Adie Holewell picked up four wickets for 44 runs.

The target was reached in 35 overs as Trevor Pittman anchored the effort with a fine 57 not out.

Brad Rouse hit 48, but it was Dev Blandin de Chalain’s quick fire 55 which ended the contest.

De Chalain peppered the boundary and the neighbouring churchyard in a brief, but explosive stay at the crease.
