NIC Turpin scored a first half hat-trick on his debut for Downton in last night's comfortable 4-1 friendly win against Wessex Premier Division side Brockenhurst. The Robins - with their three-pronged strikeforce of Turpin, Declan McGregor and Danny Western - raced into a 4-0 half-time lead - Ben Halski's long distance strike completing the scoring in the opening 45 minutes. Manager Jeff Softley made eight substitutions at the start of the second half, but his side continued where they'd left off - putting 'Brock's defence under pressure. Dan Gain hit the woodwork with a fierce free kick as Downton looked to increase their lead. The visitors scored late on from a free kick, but it was merely a consolation goal. Downton will host Salisbury City on Thursday evening full of confidence after such an impressive performance.
